Life With ADHD Illustrated In 24 Comics By This Artist
Today we’d like to introduce you to a new comic artist on our website. We’d like for you to meet “Mostly ADHD,” a webcomic artist who wanted to show others what life was like for them as someone who was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). They never thought their sketches would lead to a series of webcomics that have amassed an amazing number of over 19k Instagram followers with just 24 posts in total!
In their sincere comics, the artist translates the reality of those who live with the disorder. In addition to helping other people to realize that they're not alone in this, the said comics are also a great way for the artist to portray what they are feeling day by day.

Bored Panda reached out to the artist to find out a little bit more about her and her comics.
"I was struggling a lot in university and after seeing a psychologist, I realized at age 26 I had ADHD and it all suddenly made sense. After graduating, I was dealing with burnout, depression, and anxiety and kind of fell into a dark hole. I suddenly had a lot of free time and I was home a lot, so I started drawing funny comics as a way to cope with my situation and to hopefully make others in similar situations feel less alone.
So in a weird way I'm thankful for being in this situation, because that's where my inspiration for my comics came from. I don't think I would have ever become a comic artist otherwise."

We also asked if perhaps creating comics regarding ADHD might've helped the artist to overcome some of the things in life.
"It helps to know a lot of people feel the same way as I do. It makes me feel less alone and more accepting of myself. But it doesn't solve my problem, I'm still having to battle the negative effects of ADHD every day."
We also asked about how people reacted to the artist's works.
"Most of the response was overwhelmingly positive! I got to almost 20k followers in less than 2 months, which is insane and I never expected that. It shows how many people can relate to my comics and how big the need is to talk about mental health topics. I did receive some nasty comments from trolls who don't believe in ADHD (so don't be surprised if you get some of those on your comment sections). But to me, that just proves how big the taboo around this topic (and mental health in general) still is. It won't stop me from continuing, it actually fuels me to make more comics to further destigmatize talking about mental health."

People also seem to be very supportive of the artist's work, as they told us, "My inbox is overflowing with messages from people saying they love my comics and how they've helped them feel less alone or come to terms with their diagnosis. But also from partners of people with ADHD that these comics help understand them more. It really warms my heart and makes me happy knowing I'm doing something good for people, this is exactly why I'm doing this!"

Lastly, we asked the author of the said comics to tell us a little bit more about themselves.
"I'm a 28-year-old Dutch woman, I have a degree in sociology but I have no ambitions in this field. My dream is to continue making comics and own a small business selling merch with my own designs. But this only has become my dream since starting this account. Before this I had no idea what I wanted in life, like I said I was in a dark hole and felt stuck. But now I finally have a strong sense of purpose to continue in the creative field and make illustrations about mental health."
