Artist Criticizes Our Society By Showing Two Different Sides Of The Same Story (24 Comics)

I think most of us have heard of Moscow-based illustrator Gudim Anton. He is well known for creating short paneled comic strips full of visual puns and odd quirks that offer a fresh perspective on the modern world. However, as of recently, the artist has been circling around a slightly different idea. Anton created a new Instagram account called “YES, BUT” which includes just two-panel comics telling ironic short stories based on our current society and its values.

Gudim’s sparse style relies solely on his concise storytelling ability and he manages to convey familiar situations and images in a completely fresh and funny way for us to perceive. In his newest works, we see a lot of relatable topics, such as, for example, the psychology behind consumerism and luxury brands, or even controversial topics such as vaccines. We think it’s fair to say that all of these comics do a great job of showing what kind of society we currently live in.

His great sense of humor inspired him to make many comics that are absurd as well as very ironic in the sense that they show the double standards of our society. The comic artist has been making comics for many years already, posting them on platforms such as Instagram and even Twitter, and to no one’s surprise, his audience so far has been very appreciative and supportive of his hard work and ideas.

Though Anton's comics series "Yes, But" is still new, he had made a separate Instagram account already. With that being said, the artist has racked up an applaudable number of followers, his main Instagram account has over 1 million to be exact, while his newest one is already at 65k. And it's Right now most of Gudim's comics can be found as some type of merch as well. Anton sells prints, books, and clothing merchandise to those who would like a piece of "Yes, But" for themselves.

Coming up with those new ideas is the most challenging part of the illustrator’s process, and he adopts a methodical approach: “I make notes when I see things and then draw it up later,” he told Bored Panda previously. “It’s really important to me that the ideas I present are as simply communicated as possible. I don’t like long comics with lots of speech balloons.”

“I enjoy that I can leave something after me and the fact I can speak to people in a really visual way,” Gudim told us in a previous interview.
