As Lockdown Approaches, Burger King Takes To Twitter To Encourage People To Buy From McDonald’s And Other Fast Food Chains, But People Are Divided On It

Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, Burger King starts encouraging people to order from McDonald’s. No, seriously—the fast-food chain has posted a now-viral message on their Twitter account, urging its users to support not only them, but their fast-food rivals as well. The message was shared on the Burger King UK account, following the news of a second lockdown coming into action in the country.

While the marketing stunt has certainly received much attention on various social media platforms, many people aren’t buying the “kind corporation” narrative. However, you know what they say—there’s no such thing as bad publicity…

“Order from McDonald’s,” the shared message read. “We never thought we’d be asking you to do this. Just like we never thought we’d be encouraging you to order from KFC, Subway, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Five Guys, Greggs, Taco Bell, Papa John’s, Leon… or any of the other independent food outlets, too numerous to mention here. In short, from any of our sister food chains (fast or not so fast).”

“We never thought we’d be asking you to do this, but restaurants employing thousands of staff really need your support at the moment.”

“So, if you want to help, keep treating yourself to tasty meals through home delivery, takeaway or drive thru. Getting a Whopper is always best, but ordering a Big Mac is also not such a bad thing.”

During the first lockdown in the UK, fast food chains (Burger King and McDonald’s included) closed. However, new restrictions that’ll come into action on November 5 read that “hospitality venues like restaurants, bars and pubs must close, but can still provide takeaway and delivery services.”

Some Twitter users joked about the coming together of the two old rivals
